Issued during the reign of King Mohammed Zahir Shah (1933–1973), the last king of Afghanistan, this 5 Afghanis coin was struck only in 1961. It carries a double date in the Solar Hijri (1340) and Lunar Hijri (1381) calendars. One side shows the king in military uniform; the other shows the numeral 5 framed by wheat ears.
