A historic 1/2 Rupee coin of the Kingdom of Bhutan, struck in nickel for King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck at the Kolkata Mint. It brings together royal Wangchuck dynasty portraiture and Vajrayana Buddhist iconography, with the reverse carrying the sacred Ashtamangala around a Dzongkha inscription giving the traditional cyclical year of issue.

The eight outer squares carry the Eight Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism (Ashtamangala) – the Wheel of Dharma, Parasol, Golden Fish, Conch Shell, Lotus, Treasure Vase, Endless Knot and Victory Banner. The central square carries a three-line Dzongkha inscription giving the cyclical year.
